Stepping Through the Gap

School’s over. Maybe uni is next. Maybe work or travel – or maybe you’re just not sure yet, and that’s okay.

Stepping Through the Gap is a gap year with a purpose, that helps you to figure out who you are before you commit to whatever is next.

It combines real university study with Christian community, one-on-one mentoring, leadership development, community and cultural experiences, all in a place designed to help faith, learning and life come together.

Three reasons to take this program:

Earn an Undergraduate Certificate of Divinity in one year.

These units can be applied to study at any other university in Australia.

Midway through the year, your group will go on a cultural immersion trip.

In 2027, we will be walking on Country with an Indigenous community in regional South Australia. Dates and potential costs will be announced in January.

See here for some stories of our journeys learning from the Indigenous community.

You’ll be paired with an experienced mentor who offers encouragement, accountability and guidance as you navigate study, faith and life beyond school. Meet our team here.

Semester One

Semester Two

Exploring the New Testament

Understanding the New Testament is critical for faithfully living out God’s plan to reconcile and renew the world through Jesus Christ. The class considers the formation of the New Testament and its historical-cultural background. Students will practice various methods of interpretation on one book of the New Testament, survey key information about various books across the New Testament canon, and apply interpretive conclusions to life and ministry in contemporary contexts.

This unit introduces students to diverse understandings and nurturing practices of personal and communal spirituality. It engages them in a journey of formation and equips them to apply a range of practices within selected contexts.

Essentials of the Christian Faith

This unit introduces students to key Christian beliefs and practices regarding the relationship between God, human beings, and the world, and resources and methods used by Christians around the world and across history for constructing theology.

This unit equips emerging Christian leaders for ministry today, integrating biblical foundations with practical skills in vision, teamwork, decision-making, and ethical leadership.
